Lawyers have opened an investigation into the failure of the TSS and OSS sensors in Ford Edge vehicles

Ford Motor

Ford-Logo small

The TC (TSS) and Output Speed Sensor (OSS) are transmission speed sensors which are used to calculate the actual gear ratio of the transmission while in use. After registering data, the two transmission speed sensors, also commonly referred to as a vehicle speed sensor (VSS), send data to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM); which compares these two inputs and calculates which gear the transmission should be engaged for efficient driving.

Consumers have reported failure of these sensors resulting in the inability to accelerate and or harsh or improper shifting, both of which pose a significant safety issue for the occupants of the vehicle.

If you have a Ford Flex and experienced a problem with the TSS or OSS sensors of your vehicle we would like to hear from you. You may contact us privately using the contact attorney privately box below and/or share your story publicly using the submit button.

Just Purchased a 2014 Edge last Sunday. Two days later heard a noise that we could not identify. Took the car into dealer and don't have it back yet. We were told today it, more than likely, is PTU. We have signed our lives away for a car we do not have yet. Good we asked for extended warranty. but what else could go wrong?

Yes. I am happy to see this post. I have a problem with my lincoln mkx which has the same transmission as the ford edge. It is transmission 6F50 FWD 6 speed automatic with 3.16 ratio. It is known to have problems. My cars has exact same symptoms and I can't drive it. It only has 70k miles on it (2008). Diagnosising requires teatdown of transmission. I am in san diego, California.

My 2008 Ford Edge has engine problems after hitting 90,000 miles. At first it sounded like a transmission problem and the vehicle could not go faster than 45mph. Eventually the vehicle got to a point where it no longer starts and is now inoperable.

2007 Ford Edge AWD - had sensor issue and was told they had to upgrade the sensor chip the first time I took it in. As of today September 21, 2016 when they were replacing my recalled corroded gas tank, my traction control light came on. I was told for a $99.00 diagnostics procedure, (which I refused to pay), they would find out why. The alleged result of that test is I have a short in the sensor and for $890.00 they can replace the sensor.

I have a 2007 ford edge, and I have had countless problems with this vehicle. From a rear wheel speed sensors, numerous misfire in cylinder 4, random rpm (low and high spikes) which lead to rough idles or rough gear shifts with shaking of vehicle at about 40mph, several fuel injector codes pop up, faulty break booster which was replaced, and now black greasy sludge leaking from my ptu which is a extremely costly repair. How is there not more recalls on this vehicle. I for one am over the edge with repairs. Living paycheck to paycheck, still making payments and having no other forms of transportation this is very disheartening. I would like to join this class action

I took my 2009 Ford Flex to the dealer numerous times for harsh transmission shifts and a jerky transmission when traveling at a steady speed. This started early in it's life and never stopped. Transmission failed recently, but it does have 180,000 miles on it. It still bothers me because the never fixed the problem early on and I feel that shortened the life.

My wife was driving our 2008 Lincoln MKX on a busy street in Scottsdale when it happened to her. This is extremely dangerous, at high RPM she was able to crawl off the road and get out of speeding traffic. Dash lights were all coming on, no speedometer or odometer. If this would have happened just a few seconds earlier when she was making a left turn, she would have been t-boned by on coming traffic. I would be surprised if this has not already caused serious injury.

Sometimes I'm lucky because I'm in a parking lot and I can just turn the car off and let it "rest" for a minute but it still jerks and clanks like the engine is about to fall out. We need this recall NOW!!! Anywhere else you buy something that doesn't work or breaks , you return it! Ford needs to take responsibility!!

2008 Ford Edge. Approximately 100k miles. Over the last several weeks, on 3 seperate occasions so far, vehicle transmission has experienced banging sound along with a jerking motion while driving. Followd be this, my vehicle loses the ability to accelerate and acts as if its in a neutral state. Also receive wrench light amd orher dashboard lights as others have also stated with this similar issue. This issue has been close to putting my family in a dangerlus situation on the road. Upon researching my situation it seems to be faulty TSS/OSS Sensors. How is there not a recall on this when it puts peoples loves at risk?

My 2008 Ford Edge is experiencing the same issue. It is a 2WD with 137k miles. We were recently driving home and the speedometer dropped to 0 and the car would not accelerate while traveling on the interstate. My wife and 1 year old daughter were in the car and had to pull over. After getting it home, the wrench light icon was on. After an overnight cool down, when we took it out the next day and attempted to put it in gear, it gave a kicking sensation that was quite abrupt and would not roll. I waited another day and tried again and then attempted to drive the car, it seemed to clear up and the wrench light no longer came on, I have since been able to drive it to work and back a distance of 40 miles with no issue. This is a very dangerous situation. It needs to be handled appropriately.

08 edge. 180k now. Got it used 10k ago, thinking I got someone else's problem.. . sticks in low gear. Sticks in high gear. Hunts between gear shifts, sometimes clear out of gear before it finds were it needs to be then slamming into gear like a neutral drop type situation.. going to try the oss/tss sensor. Hopefully that does the trick :/ also just got a recall for pass airbag inflator exploding sending shrapnel into the passenger.. first ford in a long time, think I'll go back to GM.

The little wrench light was on as well as the airbag and tire sensor light. I slowly pulled over and checked my booklet. It said it was a transmission problem and not to drive it. Had it towed to my mechanic...He said it is the transmission sensors???. Pretty scary not to be able to accelerate while in traffic! I had several mechanics give me different answers. Finally at the cost of over 4k i had the transmission rebuilt. The problem was a bearing inside the transmission that had a case crack and was randomly sending poeces of bearing i to the tranny. It also blew the computer in the trannt

Seatbelt light and wrench came up on display along with odometer error. Car would not pull like it was in 4th gear. If I tried to change gears it snatched as if it were already in gear. This issue has been known about for years and should have been on recall. I did get a notice about a year ago on my airbag but each time I have called about it they said no parts are available yet.

Same issue with my 2009 Ford Flex. Hesitates and jerks while driving. Had it in the shop for 2 days. They said it was the throttle body. Cost a lot of money to have them fix that and a few other little things. 2 days later same issue! They told me to drive it until it shut down again and had a code. 4 days later.. no acceleration, check engine light came on. Shut the car off, turned it back on and it jerked back into place and drove. I brought it over to the local AutoZone. Coding with TSS/OSS. Had that replaced.. now today it is still hesitating while driving. Not while changing gears. I am absolutely frustrated with this car. 2008 Ford Edge gauges stop working wrench light on won't shift. When you turn it off 2 or 3 times everything works but it shifts really hard into drive, as if it has broke a motor mount. Everything I see says TSS and OSS sensors are bad. However both are inside the transmission making it almost impossible to do yourself and to have done at Ford or mechanic it is well over $1000. I have been looking into this and it seems to be very common, even read where someone said Ford replaced theirs and told them that is was a bad batch of sensors.

I was the owner of a 2008 Ford Edge that I just traded in because I only had 57,000 miles and had issues with the TSS and OSS seniors twice. The first time it was under warranty but they only reset the sensors. It would jerk and lose speed off and on and then at 51999 it shut down completely. I had to pay over $1000 to replace the sensors and it began jerking off and on again. This is a very dangerous situation and although I still had another year's warranty on the part, I was too afraid to put my grandchildren in the car and drive them. I complained to the Ford Company and told them that there should be a recall on this due to all of the complaints and that this was the second time for me. They told me to keep my receipts and if a recall was done, I could submit my receipt. I guess they don't care if someone gets killed on an interstate. Very dangerous situation and I just figured it couldn't be fixed properly with the parts that Ford was supplying. I just traded it in..What a shame to only get 57000 miles out of car.

07 Ford Edge; 63Kmiles; ODO data error, hard shifting, no acceleration & currently in the shop waiting repair. Ford Dealership quoted me $1250 and my extended warranty company doesn’t want to cover as they consider this to be a electrical problem/issue. I had this happen to me already 3x and the 1st 2 times pepboy didn’t get any error code (so they said) and referred me to Ford Dealer. On my way to Ford it happened on the highway and my vehicle shutdown on me and was the most scariest feeling as I thought I was going to be in a big accident. Lucky for me I was able to merged onto the median to avoid the cars and my vehicle stopped. I am looking for help / answers as I feel that this machanical issue with Ford and safety issues! Felicia same thing happened to me in February. My husband was ready to spend thousands of dollars on a new transmission. It's the input/out sensors in the transmission, which ford knows about this issue they keep ignoring it and it has happened to many people who own 07 ford edges! If willing to change input/outpur sensors yourself it would only be about 300-500 dollars but a shop your looking at thousands. Luckily someone is my family knows about cars and disconnected the battery for 10 minutes which resets the computer in the 07 edge. Reconnected the battery then started the edge, slowly shift it to reverse sat it in idle mode then shifted to other gears and so on. The errors came off dash and drove it up road and back to retrain the transmission. Worked for about 3 months rarely kicked in gears hard and so be it did it to me this morning going to work, odo error, speedometer stopped, wrench popped up, self belt guy popped up. Shifted hard then errors came off slowly and everything worked again. Ford put in faulty input/output sensors in transmission, seems like in the 07 ford edge. Very upset and angry that ford has not put a recall on this issue, and I have read alot about this issue. Should be ashamed and embarrassed. I find it slightly pathetic that this issue is happening on a newer vehicle, these parts shouldn't ever really have to be changed in any vehicle.

It happened last week then again today. Sometimes just be turning ignition off and restarting solves the issue but on two of these occasions I had to lift the positive cable on the battery to get it to reset.

I am dealing with the headache of an 08 Ford Edge with just over 124k miles that is doing the same as described above odometer fault airbag low tire pressure and wrench light we took it to a mechanic 6 months ago when it started happening and they said they didn't notice anything wrong and that there were no codes that popped up they suggested that we replace the transmission oil so $200 and they said they couldn't do anything without the codes well this is a problem because as soon as you turn the car off the codes are gone. So you have to hope that when the car breaks down you can Coast into a repair shop and have them read the codes. my husband and I figured out that if you disconnect the battery and reconnect the battery it resets it and you're able to drive it for a little while before it happens again.
This is been my life for the last 6 months until last week I was able to actually coast and do a repair shop and receive the codes I called up a transmission place gave them the codes and they said it would be between five and six hundred dollars to replace the output shaft speed sensor I am dropping it off today and I will let you know

My 2008 Ford Edge FWD V6 3.5L 3.16 gear ratio transmission slips and goes into neutral after 5 mile of driving. The car is currently at the shop, and repair cost to replace the transmission is estimated to be between $ 2700.00 - $ 3000.00. The current mileage is approx. 111,123.

My 2008 Ford Edge speed sensors went out a hour before getting back from a trip . On the highway it was Sunday and I was very scared . Cost me 600. In repairs and 600. For the rental for a week . No type of warning.

I have a 2008 MKX 3.6L with harsh shifting into 5th gear and hard shift into reverse. RPMs increase and the transmission hesitates to shift into high gear.
