Ford recalls 2011-2012 Ford Fusion, Taurus, Flex, Lincoln MKZ and Mercury Milan vehicles over potential failure of electric power steering assist systems

Ford Motor

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2011-2012 Ford Fusion vehicles without a 3.5L engine and Lincoln MKZ hybrid electric vehicles, 2011 Mercury Milan vehicles, 2011-2012 Ford Taurus, Ford Flex, Lincoln MKS, and Lincoln MKT vehicles equipped with a 3.5L GTDI engine and 2013 Ford Taurus, Ford Flex, Lincoln MKS, and Lincoln MKT vehicles equipped with any available engine. The affected vehicles have electric power steering assist systems that may shut down as a result of a steering motor sensor fault.

If the vehicle experiences a loss of power steering assist, extra steering effort will be required at lower speeds, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.

Approximately 393,623 vehicles are affected by the recall.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will check the Power Steering Control Module (PSCM) for Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC). If dealers find any loss of steering assist DTCs, the steering gear will be replaced, free of charge. If, no codes are found during the PSCM inspection, the PSCM software will be updated, free of charge.

My fusion has been having several issues including a corrosion of the battery and connectors. I had this problem fixed and bought a new battery and with in weeks the corrosion started taking place again causing my vehicle to turn off and stall in traffic.

I am also getting a nevr ending low tire pressure warning which I read is the beginning of the steering issue. I amscared to drive with my kids :(

Ahhh include F150's (2011, 12, 13, 15) in that recall...!!! They DID recall exact same for 2014....!!!! I'm 73 y/o & cannot handle loss of power steering nor financially fix it. Thank the Lord my son was driving when it occurred. It's now setting in driveway & I'm seriously considering trading it. Will NEVER own electric steering again. Read forums & some owners have had the problem "repaired" numerous times. This is expensive when not under warranty....!!! CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT...!!!

I have a 2008 ford escape that had a recall on it. After I took it in to the local Ford dealership, my car started having problems relating to the recall. After taking it to two different ford companies and proving that the recall fix did not work and is causing problems, ford refuses to authorize the other repairs that is covered under the recall, because one repair shop did the initial update. Now my car is having major problems, and I cannot afford to fix it. It is a safety issue. I have talked to 5 different people about the issue at ford but they keep saying that the case number I provide the dealership should take care of it however it does not. Im a single mother of 3 with low income and if my cars power steering goes out at a crucial time I could potentially cause a serious accident.

2012 Fusion, power steering/advance trac errors followed by loas of power steering. Recall was performed, replaced steering gear. Problem came back 100 miles later. Told me control arms were bad. Not coversed by Ford. Spent $700 on new control arms, problem came back 140 miles later accompanied by a seriously awful grinding sound. Dealer won't help.

I was driving to work and as I pulled off into a subdivision to go back home for something my steering wheel would stop turning. This is a rack pinion problem. Called Allan Vigil Ford in Georgia. Described the problem. No mention of recall. Calling warranty company today

Rack and Pinion in 2013 Ford Taurus Limited. Cost estimate is $1600. This needs to be fixed. Called Ford and they state that this is not under recall or warranty. This is an ongoing problem for Ford and needs to be corrected
