Ford named in class action over vehicles with 5.4 L engine that suffer from acceleration hesitation, loss of revolutions per minute, stalling, loss of power sudden and intermittent deceleration and other similar and potentially life-threatening malfunctions

Ford Motor Company

Ford-Logo

This is a class action brought on behalf of  current owners of all 2004 through 2008 Ford passenger car and light truck vehicles sold in the United States and equipped with a 5.4 L engine and which include the original Powertrain Control Module (PCM), the Transmission Control Module (TCM), the Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) and/or the Throttle Body Assembly. The class of vehicles is limited to those delivered within 8 years and having less than 80, 000 miles.

Between 2004 and 2008, the Defendant manufactured, assembled and marketed a host of products containing latent defects.  Since calendar year 2005 and up until 2012, the Defendant has been aware of consumer complaints regarding Vehicles (equipped with the 5.4L engine). These complaints have been made directly to Defendant and/or submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (“NHTSA”), Office of Defect.

The Class of Vehicles suffered from defects in design and/or manufacture, which has led to the following performance and safety issues: acceleration hesitation, loss of revolutions per minute (“RPM”), stalling, loss of power (including loss of power at high rates of speed), sudden and intermittent deceleration and other similar and potentially life-threatening malfunctions (hereinafter referred to as “Engine Problems”).

The Engine Problems are the result of defects in the following vehicle systems and components: the Powertrain Control Module (PCM), the Transmission Control Module (TCM), the Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) and/or the Throttle Body Assembly.

In August 2008, as proof of knowledge of the Engine Problems, Defendant issued a Technical Service Bulletin (“TSB”) to notify its dealership network (and others in the service and repair industry) of the procedures necessary to rectify the defects.

Although Defendant recognized in 2008 that many of its vehicles contained Engine Problems, it actively concealed from the public, and the owners of this Class of Vehicles, the need to perform certain services and/or repairs to remedy these defective and potentially life threatening conditions.

Defendant chose not to inform its dealership network, or others who received the TSB, that the aforementioned Engine Problems were under Express Warranty, which the defendant was under a contractual duty to service and/or repair. Concealment of these Engine Problems was orchestrated to minimize and/or avoid the defendant’s contractual responsibility to the Plaintiff class of owners.

The Engine Problems in this case did not arise in the named Plaintiffs’ vehicles until 2012, at which time the breach of warranty was discovered and realized.

My Ford F150 has been bogging down when I need to pass in critical traffic situations. I thought it was from the acknowledged (By Ford) spark plug issues that permeate the web. I want my truck fixed and Ford is responsible. My vehicle has less than 80,000 miles on it. When is someone going to further address the Spark Plug Removal debacle?

2008 f150 fx2 5.4 with 95 000 kilometers was having severe bucking, surging, As well as delayed acceleration. Was so bad sometimes it would rev up then slam into gear and spin the back tires. Truck warranty had just expired and was forced to pay $3500 for a new tratransmission! Problem was NOT fixed and currently no one knows what's wrong, no codes. Problems persist. Very frustrating! Ford has no explanation.

I changed the fuel filter and the fuel model and it still hesitates. Before purchase a fuel pump or have my fuel injector cleaned I need to know what Ford Corporation has to say about this problem.

I have a 04 f150 5.4 with 190k miles on it, it runs very rough, has no power. If I hold the pedal to the floor it reves up slowly and pings and then will almost die. It runs ok if I hold the throttle at about 2k rpms but terrible any where else. I replaced the fuel filter, air filter, all 8 injectors, cleaned maf, I have a good scan tool and can read all the sensors as it is running but everything looks ok and I dont get any codes I hade one when it all started a bank 1 too rich and a heated o2 sensor fault but the fuel trim and o2 sensor readings are good when it is running. Any advice would be appreciated as it has me stumpped. I also pulled a few spark plugs (the ones that I can get out) and they looked ok still. I did a cylinder load test and all cylinders seem to be running after the new injectors but it still runs badly.

I have a 2007 Mark LT and having some of all those issues. The engine bogging at times, TCS light blinks and vehicle bogs and then ABS light comes on. THE Transmission jerks at slow speeds when accelerating or decelerating and then accelerating again. Had new reman transmission put in and mow having same issues, changed all rotors and brakes with same issues. Ford is the worst at customer service in Hampton Roads Virginia. I recently found that if I turn off the TCS, though the TCS light and the ABS light comes on and stay on, I noted that the engine does not bog.

Sounds like a diesel that's going to stall. No engine lights or computer readings. I have also had an electrical issue with the passenger window. I had a 2005 F150 5.4 FX4 SuperCrew. I would be driving and the truck would just outright die on me. Leaving me without power without brakes and without steering. I would let it sit a minute then it would just start right up. I took it on for this service issue on Five separate occasions. They said it was something in the mass air low sensor. The transmission on my truck went out on me at less than $60,000 miles but I was over the 6 year mark. I had no option but to trade it in and Unfotunately I still owed $13000 on it. So I had to dump that into my $15000 Ford Focus I bought leaving me with $28000 in payments!!!! Now I h

Just started happening, I have 129+K on my 2008 Mark LT. I felt a slight miss in the past, but was told not to be too concern about it. Now I am Concerned! Started the truck and it rocked, bucked, backfired, no power then stalled. I shut off then restarted it and it ran normally. 4 days later it happened again, but needed to restate the truck 3x before it started running smoothly. This time the SES light came on. I read that it is a software problem and the PCM needs to be updated with the 51.5 Release. I read all of your nightmares and hope it is a program issue.

I don't want to pour a ton of money into it reading all the comments that once that's done the problem still occurs. Tranny replacement is expensive. My 2007 F-150 stutters and loses acceleration, but it usually only happens when I am going up a hill. I have had the transmission checked, changed fuel filter and flushed the fuel injection system. I also ran a tank of non-ethanol 90 proof through it, but it did not cure the problem. My mechanic thinks it may be a bad coil on one or more spark plugs.

I have been driving F150s since 1994 and never had any problems until I bought my 2005 F150 XLT 5.4. It is a piece of crap. I'v had all the problems above and changed just about everything that was related to this problem. It cost me over $4000.00 and that is when I said enough is enough and Bought a beautiful 2014 Tundra. No more fords for me and I hope everyone else does the same if can afford to do that.

I have a 2005 Ford F-150 Lariat and have had extensive problems with now hesitation and acceleration problems. One time I had an engine fail sign. Turned it off, while I was in the middle of an Intersection, and then turned it back on and it fired right back up. No codes ever came out of it. I have to "feather" the gas every time that I merge into traffic.... its very dangerous!

Owner of a 2005, 5.4 F150 Lariat 4wd with 182K miles and have been having problems with acceleration on hills or with a load, even when attempting a critical situation requiring passing! Also replaced plugs, coil packs and now have a tapping noise, diagnosed as lifter, cam phaser/timing chain. Most of the mechanics say replacing the engine is the only solution?
How can Ford continue to not honor their product qualituy and customer
satisfaction....How can we trust Ford to back ANY product that we may incurr when purchased? How can Ford say that ONLY trucks with 80K or less will be addressed in any possible recall?????

Same issue as everyone else. Acceleration? What's that? I haven't had acceraltion since May 2014 (2 months after purchasing). I have a 2005 f-150 v6 and it is the worst vehicle I have ever had. When I get into my truck and turn it on I'm really getting into a giant vibrator! When I'm idling at a traffic light my truck violently shakes causing complete embarresment. When I take off it takes me a good 5 seconds with foot to the floor board just to start moving. Actually I feel as if idling speed moves faster than I do when accelerating. Making a turn from a standstill; forget about it! It'll take me a good 10 seconds just to initiate the turn. But oh no, once it gets moving the problems are just beginning. Once I'm moving I here a noise that sounds like I'm acceraltion fast but I'm not. I'm hardly moving. Gun shots and roaring engine noise is all you'll here while driving, I'm probably better off riding a bicycle. If your still are sold on this vehicle you might also enjoy the harmful aroma of gasoline that seems to be seeping from every crack and crevasse inside the cab, who needs drugs when you have a ford? I hate stop signs, red lights, and being the first car at the stop light. I hate how much gas I waste just driving a mile or two down the road. But hey other than my truck not working like a normal vehicle and feeling miserable everytime I ignite the ignition I love my truck. I have incredibly low mileage for a ford. And need a fix ASAP!

I don't believe ford corrected this issue after 08'. Many more people should be involved in this lawsuit, and ford should be paying to fix a lot more vehicles before it cost someone their life.

I have a 2006 Expedition 5.4L. From a month after I purchased this stunning SUV, I've noticed periodic deceleration, hesitation & misfire like issues with it. For the past two days it's been very consistent & most annoying while driving. I've serviced the vehicle. With doing so replaced all fluids, filters, checked belts & hoses. Brakes & battery are new & I had the engine cleaned. Ford is overly expensive for repair work & they weren't very helpful in answering my questions nor addressing my concerns.

This sucs, I'm experiencing the same based on all these descriptions. I've got a 2004 Eddie Bauer for expedition at 140,000 miles. Been taking care of it with regards to oil changes and everything else. This time it's nerve wracking when driving and the truck jerks when accelerating and sometimes just sounds like it's running on neutral with no acceleration and hear it struggling. How are you all approaching your ford dealer service stations on a remedy without being robbed?

Driving 2006 Linciln Mark Lt for over two years. Loving it till approx six months ago. Problems started with power hesitation when I hit about 40 mph. Was sporadic and dealership could not duplicate. Jump ahead four months and started to experience same issues shared above. Truck can barely be driven due to lack of power. Can achieve about 1700 rpm (less than 12 mph) when traveling up even the most modest of grades. Have replaced all plugs, all coils, fuel filter, throttle position sensor and are now ready to take on the throttle body. Performance has not seen ANY improvement. Very frustrating! We have suffered great hardship due to lack of transportation, including missed medical care appointments. Having it towed to Ford dealership to discuss known issues as identified here and to determine next steps; either address the issues or I treat them and local news media (given heads up in advance) to a 5,700 pound Bon fire in the middle of the dealership parking lot! Kidding of course but wouldn't that be a great feeling!!

I've had several of the issues and more over the years and have done what I can to correct them with little to no results. I recently had the plugs changed, price was outrageous, and even after doing so my truck saw no improvements and is currently setting in the shop with what seems to most likely be a throttle body issue, another large expense. I have a 2007 Ford FX4, I fixed the window problem on the driver side, the motor needed to be replaced. It was not a bad fix, but I recommend that you buy the whole replacement part for window about $75.00. The power seat would not go forward or back not a fuse problem, but the wiring rusted close to the Fuse box. Easy fix but still this should not have happened. The wires were twisted together and black taped secured the 3 wires together....What a joke they were destined to rust.. Now the truck hesitates and will sometimes turn off when I try to accelerate or merge onto traffic. This is very dangerous and I do not know when the truck is going to do this. The code from the engine light made me change O2 sensors all four were replaced , not an easy fix but this did not help. Next I am going to change spark plugs then Coils see if this helps. I have cleaned the Mass Air Flow Sensor, that helped for about five miles. If anyone knows what is causing the hesitation please help, also strong odor of exhaust and hard to start. I can help anyone with the faulty driver seat wiring and the window motor replacement just email me. But this hesitation has me stumped, and why these ridiculous spark plugs that are going to break and a special extraction tool, C'mon Ford this was a big letdown. 5.4 engine NO MAS>>>

At 60K my driver side window regulator broke, took it to repair shop, they fixed it. on the way back from shop, passenger side window stopped working, took it back to shop same problem--broken regulator. got it fixed. About a month ago hesitation started but only going up the hill. ford dealer diagnosed coil #8 to be bad n replaced for $393.00 with oil change. problem not fixed-- dealer also mentioned # 2 coil may have problem as well, replaced it, but hesitation still there. Earlier dealer wanted 500.00 + dollars to replace plugs (really?) . haven't got them changed yet. Two days ago my rear window stopped working-- guess what? yes a 3rd broken regulator.

I have religiously changed oil and filter every 3000 miles with 5w20 synthetic oils. changed plugs at 73,000 miles, broke 4 out of 8. at around 60,000 miles the ticking started, brought it to the ford dealer, was told it was normal for this motor. drove it 30,000 miles with the ticking and then the bucking, and missing started. then the coil packs started failing one by one. Brought it to the dealer and wanted to trade it in on a new F150 and was told it wasnt worth anything because of the cam phaser tick was so bad. they should have fixed the damned thing when I first brought it in, and was still under warranty!!

I really believe after all these complaints all the ford dealers across the country think it is funny. I just spoke to a women @ BOZARD FORD that told me I have to pay for the diagnose a mere $95.00. And then they will let me know if it is covered. When I bought the 2005 f150 5.4 it started giving me problems with coil packs & plugs within the first week, so I thought they would make it right by having a couple of plugs replaced. For what it is worth for there reputation, again may be $200.00. They made me wait @ the dealership for 2 hours. and then told me they were not going to do any work to the truck & I had to pay $110.00 before I could get my truck from them.

I have a 2007 Expedition and about 76000 miles, i had to change out all the spark plugs as i was some hesitation and jerking issues but no stalling. That seemed to have fixed the problem until now. I'm at about 105000 miles and last week, my SUV started idling really rough and i was having trouble accelerating. I thought maybe it was a bad tank of gas. When i filled up it seemed to be running ok until a day later when it got much worse. When i idle at a light, it feels as if it is going to stall. I was making a left turn yesterday and didnt think i was going to make it across as it i had no power and it was stalling when i started the turn. Today as i was pulling into my garage, since i pull in slowly as it's tight, it started idling really rough to the point of almost stalling and then ended up jerking forward- i thought i was going to go through the wall. The service engine has blinked once or twice but has not stayed on. I've really enjoyed my SUV but the fact that it's so unsafe at this time, makes me not want to drive it anymore and also very angry that so many other people have the same issues and FOrd is not doing anything about it.

Just bought a used 2006 expedition and didn't make it home before it started bucking and jumping, misfiring, damaged spark plug hole and bad coil packs, bad cam phaser and most likely a damaged piston from the burnt spark plug. Stuck with a loan and a vehicle that will cost me $5,000 more for an engine which is almost what I paid for it. These items can not be found on a normal test drive. These failures should never occur on any vehicle. Should have stuck with Toyota!

Have a 2007 F150 with 5.4 2wd, having cam phaser noise, bucking and jerking, with a tremendous loss of power, can't even pull out in to traffic without almost getting run over, check engine light flashes a few times then goes away, I've been a ford man all my life, but this King Ranch needs to be fixed by FORD at their expense or reasonable fix offered to owners of these vehicles before someone gets seriously injured or killed.
There probabably already has been the two just haven't been linked yet.

2006 Ford Expedition. Last fall (August 2015) check engine light began to come on intermittently and vehicle intermittently misfired. 94,000 mile at that time. Took vehicle to dealership they stated vehicle has misfire due to bad plugs. Dealer (Hall Chrysler Dodge Jeep Virginia Beach) where I purchased Vehicle and had warranty thru and had vehicle service regularly stated the did not service plugs replacement on fords due to a possible liability if plugs broke during removal. Ford dealership wanted to charge 945 dollars. I was going to replace myself to reduce cost. Before I was able to replace transmission failed. Upon getting transmission repaired maintenance shop noticed misfire as well and replace plugs and coils. Engine ran ok but check engine light still comes on and off. In January be to misfire on highway. Worked around this by allowing vehicle extra time to warm up. Feb 3rd vehicle now stall and intermittently change rpm. Have replace PCV , EGR, IAC with no improvements. I own a scan tool and have received random CYLINDER misfires 1,2,3,4,7,8. I have taken vehicle to ford and the state plugs are faulty and need to do A fuel system service. I tell technicians this is bogus because I also a 2001 Ford f150 (with a new engine with 37k) on it that has same problem attempted same and it did not. correct.

Oh just great...now I find this out. Just bought a 2008 f250 5.4l. that was running great until I got on the interstate and had to accelerate quickly...stuttering and making almost a popping sound. Thought it was just the fuel filter, but reading all this I guess not...crap!! Definitely not what I wanted to find out. Anyone have a cure for this or is Ford folding up their welcome mat and leaving us in the cold?

I have a 2006 5.4 f150. Bought it used with about 130,000 mi. on it in May 2015. I've been having major miss fire/bucking/jerking issues when accelerating. Mostly at cruising speeds in od around 1200 rpms. Long story short, Ford dealership had it on there computer and ran diognastic with no solution. I've replaced or had replaced, plugs, cam sensors, vct soilinoids, tested all cops, tested fuel pressure. Little to no avail!!! Close to $1000 worth. What's up with these engines? Why won't Ford help? Probably the reason they quit making these engines, they messed them up beyond repair!!!

Just got my 2004 F150 5.4L 3V (160k miles) back from Ford Service Department after having them fix the ticking noise and loss of power during acceleration (mild ticking has been there since I first drove off the lot brand new, was told it was normal. It got worse over the years... and I'm partially deaf!). Approximately 3k in repair work. New crank and rocker arm, new cam phasers and guides (these were broken and laying on the head inside the valve cover), new phase sensors, new Throttle Body Sensor, new chains and tensioners. Ticking was caused by the phasers and the frozen bearing on the rocker arm which was grinding on the cam lobe. They said it was fixed, but before I got out of the parking lot it started bogging down again. More testing revealed faulty engine variable timing solenoid.

Just bought an '08 F-150 XLT 4X4, 5.4L with just shy of 80K miles on it, 06 April 2016. Has some hesitation in it and an occasional bit of power loss although, seems to run well overall and fuel mileage is good (16-17MPG). Downshifts are hard when trying to maintain speeds in the 30-25 mph range. Haven't taken it in yet as it seems to be slowly improving. Bought an extended warranty at the advice of the finance manager and wonder just how much of this they will cover? I knew the 5.4's had a sparkplug breakage issue a few years back but, thought they had found a solution. I didn't know of any other problems with the 5.4 and the salesman said he knew of No other problems other than the plug breakage when I asked about such issues with this vehicle. Bought it from Gary Smith in Fort Walton Beach, FL. Debating on what exactly to do. I've been fighting vehicles and breakdowns for several years and getting tired of working on them all the time. This one is running OK but, I want to take it in and have some of the current issues addressed. After reading a large number of these posts and some others on different websites and forums....I'm wondering....Have I Un-Knowingly bought a Lemon that I'm going to regret? This was to be one of the last vehicles I was going to buy before retirement that would get me through the vehicle problems I've been having for the past several years. Now....I'm wondering should I be looking for a replacement for this one? What's involved in this Class Action Lawsuit and what kind of outcome/results are we possibly looking at here?

Woke up the next day to find the truck had completely lost all power including, unlocking, lights, etc. Everything inside the truck had no power and I have no idea why. Checked to see if the fuses were blown and nothing. Funny how that works huh. I'm at lost with this truck and quite frankly, this is bulls***. in my vast 17 year experience with f150s ive found there are alot of scenerios to cause the hesitations. my2000 with the 4.6 would foul plugs due to water intrusion at the cowl by my wipers.. eventually filling the deep plug holes creating some wild arc shows at night....my gt with the 4.6 would have the same issue ..found out it was the stock hood scoop leaking into plug holes fouling the plug and heating up the cop..same car.. mustang gt on the intake manifold, the coolant channels are bolted to the plastic manifold,.. i had one of the bolts vibrate loose releasing just enough antifreeze into the number 2 plug hole.. fouling the plug and coil constantly until i pulled the intake and tightened and threadlocked it...my 05 fx4 is the best though..1st time i blew apart my cat on the highway clogged up the exhaust and got wicked decelleration and hesitation..bad idle.. i honed out the cats and it ran perfect.. now it burns up plugs faster because theres nothing in the cats to burn the excess fuels and vapors always fouling the 4 and 8 plugs.. now i have to replace timing chains and tensioners because the guides have worn thru to the hydraulic tensioner plunger..,. i have many more reasons for these problems but i must be running out of space to write..just anotheer day in the life of a ford engine

I spoke to a former certified Ford mechanic who is well aware of these issues. He had to me take it to a former worker supposedly to be the best Mechanic in the Northwest U.S. That mechanic told me the engine needed to be replaced. Apparently it's a low oil pressure issue in most cases. I was also told by more than one source and have read on multiple blogs that there was a recall of some kind to fix the issue, but I never received it. Lastly, there are new engines that do not have whatever the cause of this defect is. I would gladly purchase a new Engine at Ford's cost and pay fair labor prices, but Ford wants full retail for everything. About $8,000 not including sales tax.

Did this before, we put 500bucks into changing spark plugs out and fuel system flush. Drove great for a few month now it's doing it again. Repair shop can't find any issues of course. Noticed when we took gas cap off, it comes off real easy. Thinking maybe it's sucking air due to a bad seal in cap. Going to try and replace that to see if it helps. Otherwise we have no clue what's wrong with it.

Several Master Ford Mechanics, Several Outside Transmission Specialists and more than $5,000 later and still having very bad hesitation problems upon acceleration at any speed including take-off. I wonder how many families have (unknowingly) been devastated by Fords negligence to these issues. I've almost been killed myself trying to merge onto I85 due to an unexpected total loss of power to the wheels. Truck is still at ANOTHER shop. I don't want it back till it's fixed. My 2008 5.4L Ford F150 is hesitating to accelerate after slowing down or when merging into faster moving traffic. This has become a safety issue and has almost caused multiple accidents. I purchased the truck used last November and was told there were no defects or recalls. If this is a known issue with substantial safety implications there should be an active recall. Ford should definitely be held accountable and should repair all effected vehicles.

Faster/smoother. Changed the fuel filter. Fuel pressure within specs. Will change the mass airflow sensor. I travel the US as a safety inspector walking gas lines. I had to drive to Moab, UT from Layton, UT. 55 mph was it. Barely made the hills. B4? I could pass semis @ 70 mph. :) Not good for the travel trailer but a hoot. Set at a ford mechanics garage for a couple of weeks . He wanted to put all these other parts on. Already cost 900.00 for plugs and coils. we said NO! Took it to an old friend who has a garage . They ran a test on the motor . It is shoot 3 values gone 4th about to go! Going to cost about 7000.00, but at least we are not getting racked over the coals for replacing all the unneeded parts! Original Owner of a 2006 Ford F150 4x2 5.4l XLT. For years I have dealt with erratic shuddering, hesitation, and sudden loss of power. Repair shop changed plugs, sensors, fuel module, computer, clutch plates, and rebuilt rear end to no avail. The occurrence is erratic sometimes every day and it could go weeks without doing it. There are no codes created when it happens and no mechanic can figure it out. I would say that this issue started around 80,000 miles and continues to haunt me at now 150,000 miles. Personally, I think that this is a programmed in fault to prompt individuals into trading in the vehicle.

I've taken it in to the shop and they say everything is fine and they can't find a problem. Last month i was driving across a bridge in folsom california with my wife and 4 kids and it shut off with no warning. Along with blowing a spark plug out on 4 different occasions. I've put lots of money into the truck and it's sitting in my driveway now because it won't start. There are no codes and the battery, starter, and alternator have all been replaced. Why won't ford do anything about all of these defects that can cause serious harm.

I have a 2007 F150 FX4. 189,000 miles. I notice when it is first started in the morning I have more power than I do 5 minutes down the road. I gunned it while it was cold and the wheels spun. 5 minutes later on wet pavement, it would not do anything. No power, no get up and go, no spinning of wheels, just slow, slow acceleration. After reading all of these, it seems hopeless that anything will be done to correct or tell us what to change to get the power we need to just drive the truck. I love the truck, style, looks and driving feel, but not sure what to do. Auto parts companies, Ford, dealerships, and mechanics are making money while the owners just keep throwing it out there. By the way, I have changed coil packs, fuel filters, plugs, and am hesitant about changing any thing else since others have not had any luck doing so.

I have an 08 F150 FX4 with 89,000 miles on the 5.4 Triton, it too studders at take off around 40 to 50 mph. It also jerks or bucks while driving highway speeds. The issue that most concerns me though is that it misses and looses power while passing sometimes, I have had two very close calls due to that issue. I also have lack of throttle response like it has no kick down power. I guess one could say I have all the issues mentioned in this class action.

I have a 2005 Ford F-150 XLT 5.4 4x4. While driving and starting up an incline it most always "jerks" and hesitates to down shift. Sometimes it is worse than other times, there's just no way of knowing until it happens. If I let off the throttle allowing the RPM's to drop and then get back on the throttle it will then down shift and "usually" do okay. Also, if I take it out of overdrive then it "usually" does not do this, but even then if starting up a steeper incline and it needs to down shift it will sometimes do the same thing.

I'm a 2008 navigator owner with the same exact issues as described above. My service records are so long its ridiculous. The engine, transmission, and nearly every part under the hood have been changed by ford/lincoln mechanics and my SUV is still sick. I took a tranny specialist/ford lincoln mechanics advice and changed the throttle body because he ruled the tranny as being the issue out. It's still jerking, losing acceleration power, making noise as the rpm's go way to high and dragging up hill and while driving. I need help!

Nothing but headaches with stalling, jerking and missing, hesitation, bad coils, broken spark plugs, check engine lights, engine rattling noisier than a diesel. I have even been asked on several occasions if I had installed a diesel engine. I think Ford should fix these trucks once and for all or buy them back at premium with an inconvenience penalty added. My friend recently told me about this class action suit. I had mentioned it to Ford and had them check my truck out and they said they couldn't find anything wrong. I understand this is Fords from 2004-08. But I have a 2003 expedition. Its my wife truck. For several years we have been dealing with this issue. At driving speed, it suddenly bogs down, chokes, and stalls. It happened again today while my wife and 13 year old son was in the car. I have monitored sites for years talking about this to try to come up with a way to fix it. There are a ton of opinions, but I have changed everything and still nothing works. It happens very sporadically. It will run fine for months, then POW. It happens again. Its frustrating because I lose time from work and, not to mention, VERY dangerous for my wife and children. Any help anyone can give me? My expedition has about 150,000 miles. It may be time to scrap it and all fords.

In only the couple of months we have owned our 2008 Ford Expedition the brakes have "chattered" at least six times when depressed. When chattering, the brakes seem like they will fail. The brake problem is very scary. Today they chattered again, and the traction control light came on, and I lost the ability to accelerate. I was stranded in the roadway of a busy overpass. I turned the vehicle off, and then restarted it, thankfully the problem stopped at that moment and I was able to continue on my way.

Sounds like a diesel at idle and light acceleration. ECM does not trap codes EVER! I have done lots of work besides what I mentioned but issues continue. Now will be driving on freeway and engine starts to pre detonate and loses all power! Happened 4 times yesterday while towing again NO CODES! And NOT SAFE TO DRIVE AT ALL NOW!

2008 Ford F-150 Xlt 4 wd- I had the same problems. Stuttering, losing power all of that. Apent over $1500 just replacing parts my self. From sensors to plugs to battery, nothing was working. My truck was down for a year I couldn't even pay the monthly payment on it because I was trying to fix it. I had it towed to a local shop who was working on the same type as mine with the same problems. He put a new motor in it with upgraded parts. Had it out of the shop a month. The problems came back. Took it to ford they told to put a new engine in it I told them I just did and they said get another truck because that engine is worthless. Called ford headquarters to ask for assistance no help. I dropped a total of $7,000 to get this truck up. It is running ok now but I have 15w in it. And that helps a little but still stutters

2006 FX4 Supercrew. Purchased new in 2006. Intermittent hesitation problems about a year after purchase until it abruptly died on interstate in South Carolina (I live in Tennessee). Radio shut off, lights flickered then it completely died while traveling 65 mph. Luckily I was near an exit. Had it towed and had to change the alternater. Hesitation problems persisted after that but got much worse over the course of last year. Sputtering grew worse, especially traveling up hills. Rough Idling at stop signs became the norm. Took truck into a mechanic. Changed power coils and spark plugs. That bought me a month. Problem quickly returned. This time the team of mechanics stated it was the fuel pump. Had that changed. Over $2500 later it still isles hard and completely stalled on me after leaving work at 2 am in the middle of a slight snow storm. I'd love to be contacted regarding this class action lawsuit. Ford should fix this problem clearly affecting so many people and potentially putting people in very bad situations in regard to safety.

2008 F150 5.4 3 valve with all these same issues. Broke down on the highway 20 miles from home, vehicle just sputtered and died. Battery and alternator checked out and fine. Always had cylinder 8 misfire issues according to OBDII code reader. Changed all plugs. Problems with idle pointed towards variable camshaft timing solenoids......replaced them. Same problems. Idles rough, put it in reverse to leave driveway and it seems like it's running on one cylinder then dies. Starts right back up in park, just won't drive. Has oil pressure of 18psi which is ford's minimum passing. I'm also driving a 98 chevy with 255000 miles and no problems with it. Ford needs to step up and take ownership, this is beyond a warranty issue. If they can no longer provide quality products they're going to lose a lot of customers like me.

Same problem here. 2004 F150 5.4. Shudders and shakes around 1500-2000 RPMs. Barely gets to 55 and that is with encouragement. Forget about overdrive, it doesn't pull at all. Oil/filter change (with 1/2 can sea foam)every 6 months with Mobile 1 synthetic. Clean air filter and MAF/throttle body every change. I run premium gas with a can of sea foam every 3rd tank. Nothing works and its getting worse. Have read online forums and scoured for a fix but I am no mechanic and with a family of 5 and AD military I don't have the time to or the knowledge to fix it. I have been a Ford guy my whole life but this is ridiculous. I cant afford a new truck and I shudder to think about the cost of repairs. I would love to be contacted about this, if there is a known problem with a product, from ANY company, it is their responsibility to fix it, or never release the product at all.

I have been having the same issues with my 2008 Ford Edge. This has been re-accuring frequently since purchasing the vehicle in 2011. Every time I had a dealership look at it, they never find anything wrong. All the lights on my dashboard will come on and the vehicle drags while making a loud noise as if the gears are stuck. Sometimes I have others including my children inside while it does this. The tool or wrench appears in the dashboard lights and I still have lights that will not disappear on my dashboard.

I have a 2008 lariat f150 with the 5.4 triton engine. I bought it used from Darrell Waltrip in Franklin, Tn. a few years ago. It immediately started jerking between the speed of 40 and 50 mph. I took it back a day or two after I purchased it and repeatedly took it in. Service manager got sick of seeing me. He would always tell me things they tried to resolve the problem. I bought the truck when it had approximately 113,000 and now it has over 165,000. I got tired of driving 70 miles round trip. So I gave up. Plus I am a Veteran with PTSD and I was afraid of my possible actions. I bought an extended warranty, however they never would offer to replace anything. They just gave me the run around. I believe the truck was purchased in my wife's name of Robin L. Brown.

I've had plugs done full service tune up coil packs checked & cleaned still does it I'm doing cam phasers next I've been told that will solve it I was told that the cam phaser design includes some type of plastic tracks that your timing change run on and after time it was that plastic down which causes slack in your change and then it can jump a tooth on the sprocket and cause timing issues and so on so forth so thanks to the engineer that did that one I'll let you know in a few weeks if this resolves the problem which hopefully it does because I come from blue collar and working-class I don't want to stick anybody then I will be posting the piece of shit for sale and going out and buying a Toyota Tundra I have driven and purchased Ford and Ford parts over the last 15 years and my family has been doing longer and I am done with their junk I suggest that all of you other Ford owners make the same move

Grabbed a hoagie at local food place, came out of lot merging onto Route 38 west bound towards 295. Had weird knocking for some time now. Have had regular maintenance on vehicle thus far, as I had purchased it used in Fall of 2015, with just over 60k on it. It just rolled over 70k. Complete loss of response/acceleration attempting merge. We trudged home, approx 17 miles. I'm reading the class action (cover-up?) by Ford. I'm guessing/hoping that an American institution such as Ford is making good (finally) on these issues(?)....or am I in the dungeon with the rest of these observations?

They said the other coils and sparks needed changed. So I replace everything and again I lose power at about 70 mph on interstate and check engine light will blink.
Can't go uphill because it will stall. Vehicle started stalking at red lights and finally went into "fail safe mode" and won't go past 5 mph. Can't get vehicle to stop stalling. No mechanic can't figure out what's wrong. Ridiculous! I'm

these are notorious for torque converter problems, had my transmission flushed and filter changed at it did the trick. that could be why its stalling, and also the CVT, or CCT selnoid can get clogged or stuck and cause havoc until someone replaces them, both are cheap ,trys and fix the problems 90% of the time

We bought our 2008 F-150 5.4 in 2012 with 60,000 miles were so excited until started having problems after about 1000 miles now at 81000 miles we are having to rebuild our engin because of the problem. This is going to cost us $3,000 plus won't know for sure until we get it back and then we don't even know if it will work properly. I pray it will because I love my truck and love ford so hope this fixes our problem. I hope that the Ford motor company will stand behind their product and pay us all back the money we have had to put into our rigs that we should never have had to do in the first place. Fords are a good product they just need to stand behind a problem and fix it.

Truck will shut off when reversing, has hit and miss drops in rpms, horrible loss of power upon acceleration as well as extreme fuel consumption. My 2004 Ford F150 engine was replaced due to engine hesitation and ultimately stalling on the freeway. I replaced the engine with a FORD factory rebuilt engine and just today (after 6 months of installing new rebuilt), the truck started bucking and reving up to 4000 RPM at around 45 MPH. My 17 year son was driving it back from school when this happened.

I had a 2009 Expidition El King Ranch with the 5.4L having the same problem and couldn't get out of the way of an oncoming vehicle coming from my left. When I stepped on the gas to excelerate the truck died then lurched forward but was too late. The collision was bad enough it bent the frame behind the rear tires so my truck was totaled. That was a beautiful truck, it still hurts that it's gone.
Now I have a 2009 Lincoln Navigator with the 5.4L and am having the issues real bad, if there is help or a solution please keep me informed. It has 144,000K miles on it.

Having same issues with my 2005 Ford F150 Super Crew with 5.4 Triton as others who posted before me. Truck cut's out while driving, especially while passing. Will cut out at different speeds. I can't pass anyone anymore for fear I won't make it. Changed plugs, oil, tranny fluid. Very rough idle. Poor gas mileage. CHave to accelerate on gas peddle to get it to stop cutting out. Truck has been kept up on normal maintenance and nobody has a solution for me.

I don't know what to do! I am a 58yr old disabled widow! I received disability lump sum payment and bought a 2008 ford f150 V8 5.4l king ranch xlt 4x4 122,000 miles as is ! Was listed at $16,900.00 at the finish I payed $22,000.00 cash! The drive home ,approximately an hour hiway driving was smooth! Following morning in reverse it made an odd clunking noise, but quit when in drive! Couple day's later it started jumping forward squealing tires when I began to drive, thought I needed to get used to the power ! Few days later I tryed to open passenger window and I had to push the button fast about 6 times and it was very slow but went down, same trying to get it up! I only drove it when I absolutely had to ! 5 days later I was driving the hiway and it started bogging down like it wasn't getting any gas and started making loud clunking noise that also felt like it was pounding under my feet on the floor board! Sputtering again like it wasn't getting any gas! The check engine light came on! It quit everything as quickly as it started and I was able to get home ! The following day I began making calls to see if I could get an idea of what was wrong an estimated cost ! My monthly income is $1,900.00 ! I am now back to no vehicle and no money, not to mention every ford mechanic I spoke to told me something different and all were very costly to repair !! I need a safe, dependable vehicle !! Due to frequent Dr visits, medication s I have to get monthly, and grocery shopping, just necessities using uber and lyft is very costly! This has been very stressful, scary and taking it's toll on me both physically and mentally! I am alone and threw away over $20,000.00 on a vehicle I haven't even bought the plates for it yet, and no one will help me!! It passed emissions and until the check engine light comes back on the diagnostics it doesn't show any codes !! What can I do ? Please help me with this !!

Same issue, bought the car last June 2016, took out my first loan ever! Before I bought it I took it to a reputable certified shop for an inspection. Relatively clean bill of health aside from usual maintenance needing to be done or caught up on. Issues are intermittent so they didn't find any. Noticed issue on test drive but was told it was sitting a long time figured maybe just old gas. Since then I have put over $4000 into it and only paid about $9000 for it. I can drive in town but can't accelerate up hill rapidly and sometimes there's no issue.

I was not sure on what to do but after a while I decided just to drive until I got home or the engine stopped. Still shivers in the mornings around 40 MPH. After having warmed up and maybe a stop or two, upon starting up again, rides smoothly even at 40 MPH.

Strange though. Everytime I do something, even as simple as an air filter
change, the Expy runs better for a minute; then right back to the same old symptoms. Something with the computer maybe?

I have a 2006 Lincoln MarkLT 5.4l 3v truck and for many years the truck has severe hesitation issues during acceleration. At times it feels like something is kicking the truck because it shudders violently. I have been to several mechanics and they can't find the problem. This problem is in addition to the faulty/broken spark plugs that cost me a small fortune to replace because they all broke off during replacement.

I have all the same problems. This won't change until unfortunately someone's life is taken by these problems. I've been dealing with this for a few years now on my truck and just recently it seems to happen once if not twice a week. I have 152xxx miles on my truck. I love it but FORD needs to take some responsibility and fix these issues so no gets hurt.

My 05 Ford F150 Lariat 5.4 liter has a ticking noise back right side of engine. I have taken to ford dealership and they cant figure it out. Last week i was getting on the Freeway on ramp and pressed on the gas and the engine bogged down to the point of almost stopping in the middle of the ramp. I have put new coil packs and set of plugs, It only happens when the engine warms up. If i take off when i just started it up the power is back. None of the dealerships know what the issue is other than saying yeah that is the problems with these 5.4 liter engines
