Chrysler sued over failure to timely repair or replace Totally Integrated Power Module in certain vehicles

Chrysler

Chrysler

The lawsuit is brought on behalf of owners of the 2008 model year Chrysler 300, and 2011- 2012 model year Jeep Grand Cherokees, Dodge Durangos and Dodge Grand Caravans.

These vehicles are factory equipped with a Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM) which is located in the vehicle engine compartment. The TIPM consists of a computer, relays, and fuses, and controls and distributes power to all of the vehicles’ electrical systems. These electrical systems include the vehicles’ safety systems, security system, ignition system, electrical powertrain as well as the vehicles’ comfort and convenience systems which include such components as the air bags, fuel pump, windshield wipers, headlights, turn signals, and power windows and doors.

The TIPM installed in Class Vehicles fails to reliably control and distribute power to various vehicle electrical systems and component parts. Typically, the defect manifests as an inability to reliably start the vehicle and progressively escalates to the vehicle failing to start all together and, in some instances, the vehicle stalling during operation. Vehicle owners also have problems with the fuel pump not shutting off and random and uncontrollable activity of the windshield wipers, alarm system, door locks, and airbags.

The problem is so widespread that the part is on national backorder, taking weeks and sometimes months for a replacement part to become available. Chrysler however, does not acknowledge the problem, leaving consumers, dealers and auto technicians to sort it out themselves. Consequently, consumers are stuck with inoperable vehicles for weeks and months on end, forced to pay for unnecessary repairs and car rental costs, and have to pay over $1,000 for the TIPM replacement not knowing whether the replacement part suffers from the same defect.

Plaintiffs bring this action on behalf of a proposed nationwide class of consumers who purchased or leased Chrysler vehicles equipped with the defective TIPM, or, in the alternative, on behalf of statewide classes of consumers who purchased or leased their Chrysler vehicles in California, Maryland, and Florida

Brought my 2011 Jeep Overland in November 1, 2013 50,000 miles after 5 days, would not start took 10 to 15 tries, dealer said it was battery in fob (replaced it) very next day same thing, brought it back, after 1 week at dealer I was told I needed a Fuel Pump, after replacing that, car register no fuel, air suspension lights, engine lights, service 4 wheel drive light came on. Returned to dealer, I was told it was electronic and to keep driving and not to worry, 2 days later it snowed and I had no AWD so now the Jeep is back at the dealer 3 weeks and I have been told so many different reasons. Today I was informed I need a new transfer case and that will take another week to come in. So I am basically paying a SUV payment for a vechicle I don't have

"damage key" on the dash info is very common to see. I should've bought another Chevy PERIOD!!!!!!

2012 Dodge Durango. Remote start is the only way I start it anymore. This morning I remote started it, and got outside to find that I took too long to get ready. I push started it, and it cranks then stalls. Tried again...same result. Also does anyone else notice that the more you do this the brake pedal gets harder and harder to push, its like it doesn't come back up. (If that makes sense) Afraid to take into a dealership to repair, I don't have the money for this.

2011 Grand Cherokee. After struggling to start on occasions, my issues with this vehicle finally reached a climax when the car completely shut off mid-drive on a busy highway. I have been told by the dealership that this is the result of a TIPM failure. My service rep. seemed a little too well rehearsed when breaking the news, so I did some research. Apparently, Jeep has had problems with these faulty TIPMs for years, but continues to install them. Conveniently, my bumper to bumper warranty has just expired. The cost to repair was $1200, but there is now a "patch" for around $500. This still seems excessive. I understand there is a pending class action lawsuit that I would like to join. I do not wish to pay for this repair, nor do I think that I should have to. I am more concerned, however, with getting this right for future consumers & for the future safety, dependability, & reputation of American auto manufacturers.

My car left me stranded. Went in to start our 2008 300c for our spring break vacation only to find out the key will not turn. Tried the other remote control and the same thing, will not turn the key. This really was bad timing had to be towed from out of the garage via tow truck. I am now stuck with the bill and had to rent a vehicle. Dealer called and said it was the wireless control module attached to the TIPM.

I am currently experiencing the same issue with my 2011 Dodge Durango. I have been complaining for approximately 3 months in regards to the car not recognizing the key, and not not wanting to start up. Finally this morning the car would not turn over at all and had to be towed to the dealer. This is very frustrating and Chrysler needs to address this issue ASAP before some one gets seriously hurt or killed because of the car stalling. I am hoping that my dealer is able to fix the car and have the necessary parts to do so.

I live in Richmond , TX and just called the Finnegan Chrysler Dealership and they say they've never heard of this issue. The last couple of weeks it has taken me several tries to get my 2011 Durango R/T started. I told the guy that I had read about many consumers having this issue and how much would a TIPM cost to replace, he said $900. This is totally ridiculous and should be a recall issued from Chrysler to get this fixed. I would rather buy a new vehicle rather than give them $900 for an issue they created.

I have been stranded twice and was finally able to get it to my mechanic only for him to tell me no one has the part and Chrysler isn't manufacturing more right now and they would not give him a date to when they might be available!! I have two small children and really cannot afford a rental car plus the $1000 it will take to fix my van with no idea on how long it will take to get the new part. I have inquired to the attorney that is handling the class action lawsuit that has been filed against Chrysler and I suggest everyone on here do the same. I seriously cannot believe this has not been recalled! I guess someone will have to die first! I am considering trading in my van for a more reliable vehicle but will be taking a huge loss....

I have contacted the dealer but they told me it would be $1000 and the part is on back order. I have temporarily bypassed the TIPM and now have my Low Beam lights on as long as the engine is running. It finally wouldn't start at all, I towed to Kings County dealership where it has been for 6 weeks and I still don't have an eta - In the mean time I have a rental car that they refuse to reimburse.... I have a 2007 Chrysler Pacifica - 4.0 ltr. I have problems where the car will not start. I have to keep turning the key in the ignition, and then it will suddenly start. It's been doing this sent I bought the car used in 2011. My mechanic says that it's not the starter, but has to be electrical. Also, the car stalls on me out of no where. It happened to my daughters on their way to Vegas - stalled twice at about 75 mph. This is dangerous. Chrysler needs to address these issues asap. I saw a report last night on CBS World News - it's a real problem for many Chrysler owners.

She barely drives it and she put only 5000 miles on it last year. The only reason i bought another jeep was because my 2001 4.0L wrangler had minor issues and still running strong at 195,000 miles.

I have been a faithful Chrysler owner for over 28 years and 22 vehicles later. I purchased a 2011 5.7 Hemi Grand Cherokee sticker priced $46,500. First the fan and relay went ($100 deductible and had replaced) and the headlights flashed on and off ($100 deductible and had relays replaced), then key damage to module ($100 deductible and replaced), now will not start overnight ($500 battery replaced). This makes 6 visits for work taking over 1 month to do. I mention to look at the TIPM as the root cause and get a dud response from dealership. The funny (if you call it that)... headlights still flash, key fob still flashes damaged key and now that the battery is replaced they can hopefully tell me what is wrong with it finally. They even called it possessed. Seeing a priest for a blessing on it once I get it back! Seriously...

I have been having same issue like everyone had. I have a dodge 2011 Grand Caravan Mainstreet. bought from Mazda dealer in 2012. Not very long, It began to show a mild symptoms of failing TIPM. I took it to dealer and got told that the reason why your car is having the starting issue is the TIPM is internally shorted and burn out the fuel pump. Now i am in the middle of waiting both TIPM and Fuel pump parts and going to spend more than ($1400) to fix the problem.

I am having the same issues as previous Dodge Caravan Mainstreet consumer. We had intermittent starting issues that was originally diagnosed as a fuel pump that occurred two months out of warranty. When i replaced the fuel pump before the mechanic even allowed us to bring back advised us the TIPM had burned up the new fuel pump and we had to replace that as well. It has been over 2 weeks with missed work and rentals. Dodge should be reimbursing as this is clearly a defect.

In June of 2013 I purchased a car Dodge Grand Caravan 2011 Crew model. This vehicle was acquired from Enterprise car rental Where it was apparently brought back to waukesha wi from florida and put on their for sale lot. Initially i had to replace my battery because it just wouldn't start the car. Seemed quite possible that a former rental/Lease vehicle might have a weak battery. However, on several occasions since, I started the van but the starter continued to crank. Of course turned it of and restarted the car ...usually successfully. I raised this issue to the waukesha dodge dealership service department but they found no error
codes. Fast forward to april this year when the car wouldnt start again. The drained battery needed only a jump and i was on my way. The occasional starting with continued cranking was happening again. Then one day early this summer the car would not start so I called for service and this time the battery got to be low enough that it caused the key fob to be held in the ignition. A jump start gave me what it took to be on my way ...expensively I might ad. I took the car back to the service department but there were no codes found. And since then i have had increasing occurances where i had to turn the key fob right to crank and then left to stop and repeat numerous times before getting the car to start. Again the service department found no codes and couldnt do anything Without it occuring for them. That was three weeks ago when i got so fed up i took it in after a very difficult time getting started. They kept it over night and finally duplicated the situation on saturday morning but couldn't provide time to research the trouble aaand the computer still wasn't giving up any codes.
I took the van back home for 2 weeks until i just couldnt get it started again. Got it jumped after a real long time cranking and the battery probably was low again even though it sounded quite strong. Took it to dodge service on 9-22-2014, they got the problem to occur with the not starting, still no codes, then they claimed it had to be The fuel pump...they even claimed the gas tank was nearly empty because it sounded hollow or empty when tapped. I told them they were of base...all they had to do was check the trip ometer. When they did there was only 76 miles on this tank soooo
Not empty. Yet they insisted the fuel pump was faulty and needed replacement. I agreed to them ordering the part but they had tonagree that if-when they found the tank was full then they would have to search for another repair solution or if they insisted on Putting the Fuel pump in and the problem recurred thatbi would be reimbursed for the unnecessary replacement. They refused that option. They claimed too that chrysler had no experiences with this problem and that chrysler wouldnt even consider covering the cost. I continued my beef with them raising the references to the complaint of many other chrysler product owners and was told not to bring othernpeoples issues up since we dont have those cases in front of us.
Then i got told that the dealership had decided it was the TIPM
MODULE. They even now offered me to put in the TIPM and include a 2 year warranty on all electrical system parts. But i have to pay the $1200 for the part...which is about the same 3 cost as a 2 yr warranty by itself...but i dont know if this warranty is local or nationwide. Part is supposed to come in on monday 9-29-2014 but now that i have read of this article i apparently have more to discuss with waukesha dodge.

The car stalled on me last week, It would get any gas to go the Converter turned glowing red. Had to get the car towed to the dealership, which they couldn't find nothing wrong with it. Pick the car up went about 4 mile the check engine light came on. Went to try and get the car inspected which it failed, the codes read catalyst, evap, and 02 sensor. Called the dealership back, took the car back and now there telling me it's the fuel pump was faulty and needs to be replaced. This car only has 57,000 miles on it and want pass inspection. They want to charge me $600 to replace the fuel pump which I don't agree that's the problem.

My 2007 Dodge Caliber also has this issue. It has had it for a very long time and dodge would not do anything about it. It started happening just after the warranty ran out and make the car almost useless. the car dies while driving and sometime the light stop working which is dangerous at night. A dead car with no light in the middle of the interstate. UhG! I will not let my wife and kids drive or ride in this car. Right now it is parked and we have taken the plates off of it and we cannot drive or sell this car. It is a total loss to me until I went to spend a lot of money to fix a problem that appears to be very well known by many, but Dodge refuses to acknowledge.

Purchased a 2011 Dodge Grand Caravan in Orlando,. Fl. My car will not turn over to start, back windows won' roll down, alarm is not working, difficult in opening and closing doors. This really stinks. Called Dodge Corp they didn't care. Very cold people. How would they like it if their mom was stuck without a vehicle. Not cool!!! Called Greenway Dodge where I purchased the damn car and they are fixing the vehicles by doing a bypass on the relay (bandaide, if you will) until TIPM comes in which we don't know when that will take place. What they are not telling you that if you go ahead with this procedure it voids out the warranty of your car. OWNER BEWARE

300 series left my friend stranded on IH10, the car does not start but most of its security features do work, as a matter a fact the car still thinks it is armed and disables the starter, the coils to inhibit spark. Stranded until I can figure out what is causing the problem and or I can get my local dealer to own up and fix it.

I have a 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT. The TIPM went out on my van in January 2014. Wipers went on and couldn't be shut off, none of my gauges worked, power doors, window, locks didn't work, no blinkers, and every light was on on my dash. The TIPM went out for a second time in March 2014 (this repair was covered by the Dodge Dealership that did the previous work because of the 6 month, 6,000 mile warrenty) and now in January 2015 I am again dealing with a "complete failure of the total integrated power module, the TIPM". I have contacted Dodge customer care and they have told me that they are unable to assist with this repair.

My 2011 Caravan has stalled in traffic twice. Once on myself and then my wife. We keep having to undo the battery terminal or call road side assistance to jump start us. Finally today 1/17/2015 my wife call road side assistance and nothing worked. My only vehicle is sitting in my driveway for the weekend dead. Battery is working fine. Called Chrysler and they can't help or wont help. I have no idea what to do. The guy that came out told my wife it sounds just like the fuel pump. Why would a fuel pump go bad this soon.

2007 Dodge Caliber - SXT and I called the customer service 1-800-423-6343 for dodge. Same thing. TIPM failure caused headlamps to fail. had som Tcm and csm re flashed. Service manager from dodge dealer locally said It will be $1,100.00. I want to know what happened to this case because as a consumer we are left on our own. Made a file with service department for Chrysler to review. Yet I wait. And pay a citation for defective headlight, local sherif.

Body shop was contacted, they in turn contacted the insurance Co. they are to make a determination, but body shop is telling me this is a well documented problem with Dodge, so guess I will wind up eating the cost, unless they can produce a damaged wire the body shop missed

Today I pulled into a parking space at a shopping center, and just as I went to turn the ignition off I heard a humming type noise. I searched got out of the vehicle and looked under the dash and could tell thr noise was coming from under the hood. Then the dashboard lit up, the ac got warmer, and my locks stopped working. I turned the vehicle off. I could tell it waa an electrical or fuse problem. I started the car to leave and nothing but the clock on the radio lor up. The headlights came on, but nothing else. I reached to pull the shift lever to reverse and it wouldnt move. I was stuck for a couple hours. Finally the interior light came on and i got into gear and drove home. I have a 2008 Jeep Compass Sport with 85,490 miles. Now worried its going to be outrageous to get fixed.

My husband was driving and when he got home he turned the car in the off position and took the keys out but the car wouldn't turn off. We was told to get the ignition switch fixed and we did but now it's storming and we are having the same issue once again. A mechanic told us it's the Tipm Module

SOLUTION (Partial)

Mine is bad too (2008 Chrysler Grand Caravan). This isn't fair, and Chrysler needs to fix.

HOWEVER...a temporary fix. (1) Just keep trying the vehicle. Up to 100 times. It will usually start. (2) If not, "reboot" by removing the battery cable, for a few seconds, then reattach your battery. This is a computer issue (nothing wrong with your vehicle's hardware). Your vehicle should start right up.

My hope is that nobody spends money out of their pocket until we can get a recall or class action going. Hopefully these tips will help tide you over for a few weeks or months. Sick and tired of these auto manufacturers screwing us over. Not just Chrysler, they're all crooked. VW's fuel mileage scam. Huge GM settlement for overlooking issues that were KILLING people.

Now they want an additional $1350 to replace the part> Not sure if we will get a defective part again or not? Don't have the money to pay for it and only had the car 15 months so we still owe 33 months on it. This was supposed to be the car to get our credit back on track and now we can't even drive it and still have to pay $369/month so we can't afford to get another car either. I had a 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT that I bought at the end of the model year. I have been keeping in really good condition, as I wanted to drive it for as long as I could--I'm 79 and know that won't be too much longer. But--As I was driving on a local interstate (I live in central Florida) some other drivers caught my attention, telling me to get off the road, my van was on fire! thanks to these caring ppeople we were able to put out the fire in the right read tail light before it got worse. Transported the vehicle to the local Dodge dealer, where both the service advisor and the insurance company's claims inspector declared it a total loss, because of the damage to the TIPM electrical system. My excellent insurance company (Metropolitan) took swift action and within 20 days had sent me a check for the fair market price of a replacement and the cost of a rental car in the meantime. So, since I wanted another van just like the previous one, I found one locally and purchasedit. They ran the CarFax and it had a clean bill. So imagine my shock, when during the second week after purchase I casually touched the right rear tail light lens in passing after arriving home after a shopping trip. It was so hot it nearly burned my fingers! I then checked the left lens and it was also hot though not as much. I had learned that there is an electrical distribution module in the right side wall, and when I touched that area it was also hot. So now I have another van with the same problem, that can result in another fire or, according to what I have been reading a number of other serious problems. I have an appointement on Nov. 12 to have a Dodge service man look at it, but now expect to hear the same as all the others who have had this problem--"It's your problem, not ours". I can't afford another vehicle, as I am on Social Security, nor can I affods several thousand dollars of repair that might not even fix the cause, And in the meantime I'm haveing to rent a car, which is another expense I will have difficulty paying. How long do we consumers have to wait for someone to force Chrysler to take responsibility for this defect and make permanent repairs at no cost to us?

How is it that a headlight being out can be ticketed, but not be considered a safety concern. Also can be ticketed for driving with your brights on. If my right headlight goes out while driving, then what. This is my wife's car and my children ride in it frequently. If anything ever happened to any of them, it's on Chrysler. I purchased a 2011 Chrysler Town & Country in May 2012 and have not had any trouble with it until now. Since July of this year I have been getting random messages on my display most of which are from the park assist system needing to be serviced, I also received a recall notice for the rear vent window switch. I brought the vehicle to the dealership to get the recall taken care of on November 5, 2015. When I dropped it off I told them the backup camera stopped working and I was getting strange messages about the park assist system not functioning properly I also had flickering lights which I thought may have indicated a bad alternator and asked them to check that as well. The dealer had my van for two days, they called me and said they ran diagnostics on the entire van and found nothing wrong, charged me $100 and sent me on my way. Two days later the van broke down with no power, I called the dealership back and explained to them what was going on, they said I could bring it down if I wanted to, but they would have to charge me another $100 diagnostic fee if they didn't find anything wrong. I didn't want to take this chance so I brought it to a garage that I have been working with for years and that I trust. The second garage had the van for about a week, but two days into it they told me that it had a bad TIPM and that they would be ordering the part. On November 13, 2015 the garage called me and said they discovered the TIPM is no longer the problem but now it is the ECM which is a manufacturer warranty part for 8 years or 80,000 miles and they can do no further work. I then had to set up towing to have the vehicle brought to another Chrysler dealer which was about 15 miles from home. My vehicle has now been there since November 14, 2015. Upon inspection of the vehicle the techs discovered it is not the ECM but the tipm that is the problem. They said they ordered the part but it is on national backorder and they are not sure when they will get it in so I am without a vehicle and no one will even compensate with any kind of a loaner vehicle and I do not have the resources to rent a vehicle for who knows how long.

Christopher R. said

After my post last night, I had another thought. If Chrysler and its other companies are still building new vehicles with TIPM's in them, why are these parts on national back order? Also, the first post of this blog was submitted 740 days ago. How is it that a company can have a particular part on national backorder for over two years? Just saying!

I have a 2008 dodge nitro that has major electrical issues, two days ago while driving the vehicle the horn started going off uncontrollably along with the windshield wipers and the wiper fluid. Mine you I was driving when all this happened and then the vehicle suddenly with no warning turned out while driving I pulled over to the side of the road and disconnected the battery terminals that didn't solve the problem. Called the recall center and they informed me that my 2008 Nirto was not under warranty and that I would have to repair my vehicle at my own cost. I contacted my local Dodge dealer who informed I was not the only person with this problem he explained that it was my TIPM that needed to be replaced and told me just to examine the problem would cost me approx. $600 to $800 dollars.

12/18/15 my 2012 Dodge Caravan wouldn't start. I thought since the battery was 4 years old maybe it was the battery. Tried jumping it and still not luck. Ended up having it towed to the dealership. When I call the guy said I know what the problem is "it's the fuel relay sensor" but today they called (3 days later) and said it wouldn't start only because it was flooded! I'm not buying that excuse. Chrysler has a problem!

2012 Dodge Grand Caravan having the same issues. Dash lights blinking, radio off, but blinking lights, no heat control, head lights flashing. Been in the shop for almost a month with know idea how long they will have it since the part is on back order. Then they still have no promise that it will correct the issue because the new part may be faulty as well.

Our 2011 Dodge Grand Caravan began acting up in February 2015. Driving down the highway at 65mph the car starting shaking and the engine light blinking. We pulled over turned the car off and tried a restart. The car seemed to be running fun but still had the engine light on. We had the car hooked up to the computer which said there was a misfire in one of the coils. Basically we needed sparks plugs fixed. Had these repaired with the engine light not going off. Took the van on vacation and in July 2015 and it died in the middle of our trip. We had to call tow company to jump start van and thankfully it worked. The guy jumping is told us it was the alternator. Thankfully our friend is a mechanic and told us what signs to look for. It wasn't the alternator! In September our fuses began to die in out outlets. So I bought a pack of fuses for the two front outlets and the rear outlets and changed them. They would work for a while and then blow out. This was so frustrating bc I couldn't use
My car chargers. So after about a month of this, I began having issues starting my van. After a week of having it stall, we bought a new battery. Even at Auto Zone with the newly installed battery the employee couldn't get the van started. After an hour of trying it finally started. He told me it was the fuel pump. The new battery worked for a couple Of days and we changed the fuses once again. I was driving down the highway with my daughter in the car and I plugged my cell phone into the outlet to charge it and my van automatically died. Stalled right on the highway going 55 mph. If anyone was behind us we would have died! After this we took the van to our friend who is getting his masters in auto mechanics. He informed us that the fuel pump does not shut off when the car is shit off. He told us it was caused by a faultyTIPM. He states he has worked on a number of Dodge/Chrysler vehicles in the past few years and this is an ongoing problem. He ordered is a bypass part and it is currently on my vehicle. He states that Dodge has recalled and acknowledged this issue on a handful of vehicles but not on mine. I have called two dealers in my area. One told me the TIPM part is on back ordered and they would call when they had it (that was in September) and the other acted as though they never heard of TIPM. I'm so frustrated as this van is only 4 years old and should not be causing me this any issues. I have work and other obligations and can't be worried about this issue!!

I have a 2006 Chrysler 300 with less than 70,000 miles. Since 50,000 miles the TIPM has failed about 10 times. The engine shuts down without warning, whether in motion at any speed or at idle, engine warm or cold. When it shuts down, there are no warning lights, no breaks, no steering nor the transmission work. This has to be the most dangerous defect in a vehicle. I am surprised that Chrysler has not issued a recall on this.

I've had an issue with my 2007 Dodge Caliber. As of late, the starter has burned up on me twice; both times were on the road. The first starter that was replaced was the original manufactured starter that came with the vehicle. Got a re-manufactured starter put on the vehicle as a replacement and it burned up within a month. The starter seems to stay engaged after the engine starts and even after the car is shut off. Can't help but think this is caused by a faulty TIP-M.

In Late 2010 I purchased a 2008 Chrysler 300, it had 30,000 (approximate ) miles on ti. Had trouble two month after using the car. you had to turn the key off and on 10-50 times before it would start. Nashville Dodge Chrysler Jeep on Crossings Blvd put ignition modules in and said it was fixed, one week later I had the same problem. It could take 1-48 minutes to start, at times starter would remain engaged as well. Nashvill Dodge Chrysler Jeep again said they could put ingnition modules and airbag repair, since both things were in the recall.
One day it had to be towed because it burned my starter up completely, I have had nothing but problems from this vehicle.
Why would engineers place electronc parts where moisture could get to them. Why hasnt Chyrsler Addressed this problem. This car is at the very least a safety hazard and Dangerous to drive and be on the road.
The car now has 59,000 miles and still has the same problem with starting . intermitten other s( wipers come on and off at will) Fuel pump also involved to some degree with strong smell of fuel.

Can anybody Help !!!

Me and my wife have a 2008 2.0 4 cylinder dodge caliber which we just had to replace the film, 900.00 later and another module in driver side wheel well is also bad. Nothing but problems with this car, we went to start it one day and nothing would happen, had to tow to shop and that's when they said tipm was bad. The door hinges on these cars are also junk, we've replaced two hinges because they froze up and bent the door.

I own a 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee and it keeps stalling - at times while making a left hand turn - scary. They have had my jeep battery replaced 2 times. Sometimes the wipers start going before it stalls. The TIPM class action lawsuit was just settled in the US for this issue but I am told that Canadians do not apply at this point until we have our own suit against Chrysler Canada. I have had to pay for rental cars and band aid fixes. I will not even drive out of town as it keeps happening.

2008 Dodge Nitro with intermittent issues with the interior lights and now the wipers will not shut off. If you pull the fuse you have NO turn signals or High beams. Also have had issues with the turn signals but did not connect the issues until recently. $750.00 for just the TIPM, no idea yet on the labor. This company does not stand behind their vehicles: first the transmission went out on it after a year (they did replace it - had lifetime powertrain). Ha, ha on lifetime powertrain - they screw you on that with fine print and anyway they can to get that warranty away from you. Motor had major issues at 102,000 and all company can say is "well you got plenty of miles out of it". Now the TIPM issue!! Love the look of the vehicle but its a LEMON and the Company - Why did we bail them out???

My Dodge dealership has had my vehicle since Nov.7 2015, it is currently Feb 10, 2016 there is no solution for my problem I have been dealing with my Junction block ( which is the main brain for all the electric of my vehicle) There is no replacements. Chrysler said the estimated date is now March ( sometime) the last estimated date was Feb. ( sometime) I have not heard from either place in over a month now. I have tried contacting them , and they tell me ( Dodge) its not their problem. Chrysler says they are not guaranteed to find parts that go bad in THIER vehicles. I can not get a resolution for the vehicle it is 8 years old. And like I told Dodge how did this become my problem when there was a fault if the sunroof that I was unaware of. It had a leak that ran down the inside of the vehicles dashboard that water damaged the junction block. Chrysler does nothing for a vehicle that I paid $45,000 for 65,000 after interest. I'm supposed to just eat it according to Chrysler and Dodge in those words. Trade in my non working vehicle for no money and buy another one from THEM. So I can have the same problem down the line...

Son had a deer hit with his 2007 Caliber. Not too bad but we bought a new fender and lamp for passenger side and brought it to a local body shop for repair. The owner couldn't get the bulb in the new lamp to work so rigged the regular lights up to work when the brights switch is on. I had done the same on another older Chrysler and at the time thought it was just a bad wire. (it probably was) I've since researched and found what all you have. It's the TIPM. You can get one on eBay for under $200. But that's still a lot of $$$ for fixing a headlight.

Brian h, try contacting a lawyer and turning it in under the Lemon Law. We did that with a Dodge van years ago. We are having the same problem with our 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee starting and not starting on any given day, time, time of year. We thought it was a fluke a few months ago, since it started again and was fine for a bit. However it has started (or shall I say NOT started) all over again. My husband took out the starter and took it to have it tested and it was perfectly fine. All of this seems to have happened since we had the ignition switch changed on the recent recall, maybe about 4 months ago. We are now using a rental for the next 2 weeks, as we can't take a chance on the Jeep not starting and to give my husband time to try and figure out the cause of this issue. I am beginning to think it's the WCM as well. Why wouldn't there be a recall on this.. apparently, by the dates on these posts it has been an on going issue for over 2.5 yrs.

I have a 2008 dodge grand caravan sxt. It is well known that this car has severe electrical issues. I have asked the local dealer to help that we originally bought it from. They refused and said it was to expensive to keep trying to diagnose. Even though I paid for the extended warranty. I finally had to stop by every time there was an issue or they acted ignorant of any issue. I still have the van, it obviously needs work done to it. I have had 3 radios die in it and they refused to fix this one. Stating that it was my turn. My back up camera doesn't work without my radio. To care for my own children and my foster kids i need access to my van . Many of my children and my foster kids are developmentally delayed. I need to be able to get them to dr appointments and get groceries. The only thing big enough to carry all my kiddos is my van.

2007 Dodge Caliber R/T. While driving my lights will start to flicker, then the open door or low gas indicator noise sounds and all of my gauges will drop to 0 and then come back up while the car shudders. I've pulled over and turned off my car and suddenly it's as though my battery is dead. After about 10 to 15 minutes of walking around, checking for power with my key fob, and cursing this vehicle suddenly the power returns and I can continue driving it. I've had issues with my headlights and taillights going out, even when they're brand new and having a mechanic reset the car's computer AGAIN. I've called the Dodge Dealership and they quoted me $900 plus tax because it needs a new TIPM. I've had better luck with my Ford from the late 90's and we all know about the quality of those cars. This is terrible manufacturing on Dodge or Mopar's part and anyone who has bought this generation of cars (new or used) should certainly receive more leniency about this issue. It's unsafe, and I do not want my car to shut down while I am driving it and especially when my wife drives it.

2009 Dodge Journey is POSSESSED! "Dead Battery" replaced 4 times in 18 months. Intermittently, battery is dead then starts after magically. Horn goes in and out. Window goes up when it wants to. Tail light goes on when it wants to. Then.... EVERY light came on the dashboard, car lost power and has been stuck in "limp mode" (2nd gear), cannot press the accelerator but car STILL DRIVES, everything flashes like the poltergeist is in it, then slowly rolls(without foot on accelerator ) to about 3mph(guessing since gages don't work. Dodge dealer fake lousy Diagnostic says ECM won't get power to alternator however ECM isn't available so towed it home, out on plug and play em, NOPE! Now 27 codes. Replaced the alternator, boom half ass working car. Car still stuck in 2nd gear. Dealer won't respond so other car shop says TIPM! It gets power to it but none out of it. Invested $1500 for battery, ECM, alternator, electrical diagnostic, Dealer diagnostic, all in 4 weeks for repairs, $200 week for Uber to get to work, 6 tows, and guess what, mother lovin TIPM is another $1200 to continue further testing. Dealer REFUSED to check the TIPM, which is on recall and R03 since all this started next day after they did that recall in February this year, so now I'd like to recoop money for a misdiagnosis that has cost me $1500 so far.

I know it is'nt overheating because it sometimes comes on immediately. I realize the could be other issues. Although when the light's not on it shifts fine. When it is on it's very dangerous. The car loses most of it's power( limp mode). Whoever engineered this didn't have safety in mind. All the warning cluster lights at the same time along with the headlights flickering points to one thing, TIPM
